The means that for about half of this month I won't be in town. This week I get to go to Colorado, the week after Chi-town and then the week after that I'll be in Florida. So this may or may not be my last post for quite sometime. It all really depends on how I feel when I get home, or how I feel whilst on the road.

Let's talk today about my favorite band (I'm sure I've had a post like this in the past), but I digress. The Decemberists have just come out with a new album (okay it's about 2 weeks old at this point, but I'm slow and lazy it takes me a while to update things). The album itself it quite awesome, it hasn't left the CD player from the car yet. I enjoy it's feel and I enjoy all of the songs on it. Now I just have to hope that means in the near future they;ll be making another trip to Houston, Austin or maybe San Antonio (those being places that either A. I live in or B. I can drive to without too much delay).

I think a lot of people have said that this is their best album to date. I don't know how I feel about that. I believe that it's the most accessable of their albums, but accessable does not always mean best. I'm torn. "New is always better" (thanks Mr. Stinson for that bit of logic), but I like it all really. Old, New and inbetween. It's all good to Chris.

I love the Decemberists.

Number 2.... you're in luck

So continuing along, let's start up post number 2.

For those of my friends who have known me throughout the high school and the college years can attest to there was one major feature that I lacked. The basic ability to function a moving automobile. Through a variety of poking and prodding I had a few years back been taken to the edge and pushed off into the deep chasm of the Houston Freeway system, that is correct, the impossible has happened : Chris can drive (granted this has been a regular occurrence for the last like 3 years now, but still a milestone all the same). Who of you didn't think I would hit my 30th birthday and arrive helmet grasped in hand asking if there was anywhere I could lock my bike up?

But I digress.

On normal soil I am a calm, decent well-mannered human being. That is to say that as people go, I'm a pretty good one to know. However there are two Chris' that immerge in the throes of driving. One is a fun Chris. I like this Chris. I know this Chris. This is the same Chris as biking Chris. This is the guy who sings as loud as possible, and you the other Houston driver more than likely would point and laugh. Clearly this Chris is having a good time!

Then there is the other Chris. I'm not too proud of this Chris. He's mean. He's angry. He spouts off words as though he is stricken with a type of driving related Tourette's. The things that come forth from the mouth of this Chris when strung together do not make coherent sentences let alone coherent insults.

I dislike the term roadrage. I contend that my anger, my inability to create a proper insult is a result of roadrage. I believe it to be a symptom of idiot-rage. Maybe I could call it poor-driver rage. I know that in my short term as a tenured driver in the city I try to be as safe as possible. I try not to cut people off. I do try not to speed (my apologies to the citizens of Ferris Texas and you're impossibly slow highway driving speeds). I really do try to maintain normal distances from vehicles and try not to stop within an inch of hitting anyone's bumpers. Is it that much to ask that other drivers do the same for me?

Years ago, when this weblog was in the first stages of life I wrote about a run-in I had with a very racist minded pickup driving and the words that I exchanged with him (one of the first times I had ever been run off the road whilst biking). Maybe my luck with biking should teach me what my luck with driving will be. Maybe I should just avoid anything that has wheels and wait for hover-vehicles.

I am fully aware that I used my first name way to much in this post. Apologies to all (okay at this point maybe one or two....)

It's alive!

Let's start this back up shall we?

It's been a while since last I left you my vigilant (and more than likely non-existent audience), but I am back. Not with the proverbial bang, but more with a little whimper. I've found that as of late something has been lacking in my creativity department and I believe it to be writing.

No writing = non-creative Chris.

I enjoy writing. I enjoy all of these artistic pursuits that I really have business liking or partaking in. But I suppose that is the cost of a hobby, you do it because you like/love it not because you're any good at it (example of this can be seen hanging on the walls of the apartment, or a variety of other people's homes/apartments around the US. Free art from friends is awesome, everybody get an Ayers while you still can!)

Much has change since last I left you. And I have no doubt that we'll delve irght back in to where we all left off in good time.

whimper

Processing...
